The second event “refuse single-use plastic” topic was held in Jinhua, Zhejiang.

On August 12, I arrived at the mall to set up for the event. The posters, background wallpaper, and roll-ups were ready when I got there. I rearranged them and placed some eco-friendly thermos bottles and bags on the table. After all the setting up, I waited for the event to begin.

The event officially started at 9:00 am. I gave out the bottles and bags I designed to encourage everyone to replace plastic products with those. By introducing the posters and roll-ups, I explained the seriousness of plastic pollution caused by single-use plastics and the importance of protecting the ocean. After that, I designed a quiz for everyone to fill out. At first, not many people were actively participating. After a while, more people became enthusiastic and eager to answer the questions.

In the end, there was a table with paint where kids in the mall could feel free to drop by and paint on the eco-friendly bags. The topic for the painting was the ocean. Many painted a clear blue sky with a turquoise-colored ocean, birds flying above, and no plastic floating around. After the event, I decided to build a long-term relationship with the mall.

After the event, I decided to build a long-term relationship with the mall. With the help of my parents, we negotiated with the mall to place recycling bins next to shops. I noticed that there were only a few recycled bins in the huge mall. Therefore, I decided to create big recycling bins decorated with turtles and other elements of the ocean. They were placed around the mall so people could discard plastic bags, bottles, straws, etc.
